Though the House of Biz, mainly because of its size and the copywriter to art director ratio, does not have exclusive creative partners as a general rule, I have lately been doing a lot of work with one art director…who just resigned to take a job at one of those big places on Madison Avenue. He left with no hard feelings and all that, but he also wanted to leave quicker than the usual two weeks. His last day was yesterday.
And so today I found myself sitting this morning with The Pretty AE, a young, very aggressive and usually very good account executive, trying to explain why a certain magazine would not print her ad in five colors.
AE: But we were able to print the packaging in five colors
DB: Right, but we had a printer print those just how we wanted them. I’m not all that sure that the magazine would or could change how they print just for us…maybe for a lot of money…
AE: But we need the fifth color to ensure that the logo is correct
DB: I know, I hear you. It’s just that the magazine sort of does it their way while the printer for the packaging did it our way
AE: Right, but we need that fifth color
DB: And I need a gold-plated toilet, but I just don’t think that’s on the cards
AE: [Art Director who left] would have made this happen, I’m going to go talk to production
