Sherwin-Williams, they of the very un-environmentally friendly “Cover the Earth [in paint]” logo, have decided that they had enough of SBC, their most recent agency [Ed note: I got it wrong by saying that SBC had the account; they haven't had it for a while...Doner and then Wyse handled the account since SBC], and have the account in review. It’s always a pity when a small agency gets shitcanned for, presumably, one of the Death Star-types, but it’s not like they have done what I like to call “good work” for the brand and thus probably deserve it.
The long list of approximately forty agencies has been drawn up and it includes the usual suspects from the holding companies. The long list has a very distinct Midwestern flavor to it though the East Coast is also fairly represented.
West Coast shops are but an afterthought.
It is too early to tell who has the inside edge, though I would expect that we will see the short list dominated by Midwestern-based holding company-owned shops, if only because Sherwin-Williams seems to want a clean break with the past.
