When I started in the business it seemed that you absolutely positively had to have an accent if you were to have any chance of making it as an Account Planner. Now, though the playing field is definitely still tilted towards those from across the pond, the balance is evening out.
Impetus: the hiring of an American planner who, over drinks last night, told me about how tough it was to break into the business at certain shops that retained the old school attitude about planners and their accents. Luckily, we here at the House of Biz care nothing for accents.
We also don’t like doing the paperwork for visas.
